Second Bike Corral Unveiled in Downtown Long Beach

The ’s drive to become the Most Bike-Friendly City in the country continued on Wednesday with the installation of the second bike corral in the Downtown area. The bike corral is in the 400 block of , conveniently located near shops and eateries.

“Bike corrals are a great way for us to promote cycling, encourage a healthy, active lifestyle, and to create a more livable community for Downtown residents,” said Councilmember Robert Garcia, who represents the First Distrct. “This is just one part of our ongoing improvements and enhancements to the Pine Avenue corridor, with much more to come.”

What is a Bike Corral?

The bike corral is a metal rack shaped symbolically like a car that provides secure on-street parking for 14 bicycles. It fits into a standard parking space (traditionally used to park one automobile) without blocking pedestrian access on sidewalks, and helps get the community into local businesses without getting into their cars.
