City of Long Beach Still Seeking Volunteers for Third Annual Bike Count

Want to help make Long Beach the most city in the nation? Here’s your chance to get involved: Count bikes to make bikes count! Volunteer for the City’s Third Annual Bicycle Count on Thursday, October 14, or Sunday, October 17. Volunteers are still especially needed for Thursday, October 14.

The and California State University, Long Beach are seeking 300 volunteers to help conduct bike and pedestrian counts at more than 35 locations throughout Long Beach. Multiple volunteer time slots and count locations are available. High school students are welcome to participate with parent permission.

The Third Annual Bicycle Count will help the City acquire a better understanding of locations of bike and pedestrian activity, and which areas and are used the most. Ultimately, the Bike Count will help decide where bike and pedestrian improvements need to be made.

Volunteers will receive a $10 dollar “thank you” gift card to a local bike shop.

Here’s what you can do:

Step 1: Select a Volunteer Training to Attend on Tues., Oct. 12, or Wed., Oct 13
(Training will last approx. 30 minutes)

Tuesday, October 12
CSULB Pyramid Building
12 pm, 2 pm, or 6 pm

OR

Wednesday, October 13
Long Beach City Hall, 9th Floor Conference Room, 333 W. Ocean Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90802
8 am or 9 am

Step 2: Let us know which Volunteer Training you will be attending
Register online at www.csulb.edu/rideshare (click on “Bike Count”) by Monday, October 11. You can also contact us via email or phone with the time you plan to attend the Volunteer Training. Step 3: Count bicyclists & pedestrians on October 14 and/or 17
Thursday, Oct. 14 – 7 to 9 am, or 4 to 6 pm
Sunday, Oct. 17 – 12 to 2 pm

Step 4: Drop off Count/Survey Forms
Drop off your completed count forms at one of multiple locations and pick up a $10 dollar “thank you” gift card for a local bike shop!
